Steve Witkoff, the special envoy of US President Donald Trump, stated that he visited the Gaza Strip accompanied by US Central Command leader Brad Cooper and the President’s son-in-law Jared Kushner to verify Israel’s commitment to the first phase of the ceasefire.

Witkoff said on X: “Admiral Cooper, Jared Kushner, and I traveled to Gaza to verify Israel’s commitment to the first phase of the agreement, and we received detailed briefings on security, humanitarian aid, and conflict resolution efforts. With continued commitment, peace remains within reach.”

Earlier, Trump announced that Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement had reached an agreement to implement the first phase of the peace plan in Gaza.

During the first phase, Hamas will release Israeli hostages, Israel will withdraw its forces to an agreed line inside the Strip, and hundreds of Palestinians will be released from Israeli prisons, including many sentenced to life imprisonment on terrorism charges.
