President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call today, Saturday, from President Nikos Christodoulides, President of the Republic of Cyprus.
Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official spokesperson, stated that President Sisi reviewed with the Cypriot president the key aspects and details of the agreement, emphasizing its importance in stopping the war, releasing hostages and detainees, securing humanitarian aid entry, and starting the reconstruction process of the Gaza Strip.
He also stressed the necessity of full implementation of the agreement’s provisions, noting that Egypt has made continuous efforts over the past two years, in coordination with Qatar and the United States, to end the war and alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Palestinian people.
In this context, the president invited the Cypriot president to participate in the celebration to be held in Egypt on the occasion of the signing of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.
The spokesperson pointed out that President Sisi emphasized the need to deploy international forces in Gaza and the importance of granting international legitimacy to the reached agreement through the Security Council. The two presidents also agreed on the immediate start of the reconstruction process, with President Sisi indicating Egypt’s intention to host an international conference for early recovery and reconstruction, which was welcomed by the Cypriot president.
The spokesperson added that the call also covered the distinguished bilateral relations between Egypt and Cyprus, where the two presidents discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the two friendly countries in political, commercial, and investment fields.
The two presidents agreed to build on the results of the summit held between them in January 2025, contributing to expanding cooperation in tourism, construction, agriculture, and other areas of common interest.
In the same context, the President of Cyprus affirmed his country’s continued support for Egypt’s positions within the European Union.
