President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from Nikos Christodoulides, President of the Republic of Cyprus.

The official spokesperson for the Egyptian presidency stated that the call addressed recent developments in the Middle East, foremost among them the agreement reached in Sharm El-Sheikh regarding the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The Cypriot president expressed his country’s full welcome of this agreement, confirming Cyprus’s support for its implementation and praising Egypt’s vital role and the personal efforts of President Sisi in facilitating the agreement.

Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official spokesperson, explained that President Sisi reviewed with the Cypriot president the key aspects and details of the agreement, emphasizing its importance in stopping the war, releasing hostages and detainees, securing humanitarian aid entry, and starting the reconstruction process in the Gaza Strip.

The president also stressed the necessity of fully implementing the agreement’s provisions, noting that Egypt has exerted continuous efforts over the past two years, in coordination with Qatar and the United States, to end the war and alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Palestinian people.

In this context, the president invited the Cypriot president to participate in the celebration to be held in Egypt on the occasion of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.

The spokesperson pointed out that the president emphasized the need to deploy international forces in the Gaza Strip and the importance of granting international legitimacy to the agreement through the Security Council. The two presidents also agreed on the immediate start of the reconstruction process, with President Sisi indicating Egypt’s intention to host an international conference for early recovery and reconstruction, which was welcomed by the Cypriot president.

The call also covered the distinguished bilateral relations between Egypt and Cyprus, where the two presidents discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the friendly countries in political, commercial, and investment fields. They agreed to build on the results of the summit held between them in January 2026 to expand cooperation in tourism, construction, agriculture, and other areas of mutual interest.

In the same context, the President of Cyprus confirmed his country’s continued support for Egypt’s positions within the European Union.
