The President of the Supreme Judicial Council in Iraq, Faiq Zidan, called on Friday for all political forces and candidates to adhere to a unifying national discourse free from sectarian or ethnic incitement.

Zidan emphasized in a press statement today the necessity of fostering a spirit of citizenship and loyalty to the state during the parliamentary elections scheduled for November 11.

He added, “The judiciary, through its role defined by the constitution and the law, affirms its full commitment to achieving impartial oversight, protecting voters’ voices, and ensuring the integrity and transparency of the electoral process at all stages in coordination with the Independent High Electoral Commission.”

He confirmed that “the judiciary will remain the guardian of the constitution, the guarantor of the rule of law, and the protector of the people’s will.”

Zidan stated, “Elections are the foundation of any democratic system and the means through which the people express their will in choosing their representatives in the legislative and executive authorities.”

The Iraqi political scene is witnessing a wide campaign in preparation for the elections, amid a boycott by the Sadrist Movement led by Muqtada al-Sadr, raising concerns about a decline in Shiite participation in the upcoming parliament.
