The Parliament of the Union for the Mediterranean, chaired by MP Mohamed Abou El-Enein, Deputy Speaker of the Egyptian House of Representatives, welcomed the announcement in the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh, the land of peace, of a historic agreement that marks the end of the war in the Gaza Strip and the beginning of a new phase of peace, security, and sustainable cooperation in the Middle East.
The parliament praised the agreement’s provisions for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire, Israel’s withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, the delivery of urgent aid to civilians, and the exchange of prisoners, laying new foundations to consolidate peace and end unprecedented humanitarian suffering over more than two years of conflict.
The Parliament of the Union for the Mediterranean expressed deep gratitude and appreciation to the Arab Republic of Egypt, the State of Qatar, and the United States for their exceptional efforts in bridging differences and achieving this agreement. Special thanks were extended to His Excellency President Donald Trump for his direct and decisive role in reaching this historic agreement, which represents a first step towards implementing a comprehensive peace plan and restoring security and stability to all peoples of the region.
The parliament praised Egypt’s pivotal role over two years to end the war, deliver aid, and achieve lasting peace, expressing appreciation for Egypt’s active efforts during its hosting of the recent negotiations, which directly contributed to this decisive shift towards peace and stability in the region and facilitated reaching this historic agreement.
The parliament called on both the Israeli and Palestinian sides to fully and urgently implement the agreement, ensure the entry of urgent humanitarian aid through United Nations organizations, release all hostages and prisoners, guarantee no displacement or annexation, and begin reconstruction efforts and serious work to implement the two-state solution according to international legitimacy resolutions.
The parliament reaffirmed its firm position that the only path to achieving peace, stability, security, and peaceful coexistence in the region is through implementing the two-state solution and enabling the Palestinian people to determine their destiny and establish their independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
