While hundreds of Palestinian families in the Gaza Strip await the release of their sons from Israeli prisons next Monday, in implementation of the ceasefire plan in Gaza, Israel still refrains from revealing the names of the Palestinian prisoners to be released.

Israeli informed sources reported that the list of Palestinian prisoners has not yet been published due to last-minute changes, according to Israel Hayom newspaper on Friday.

Replacement of 10 Names

It was also clarified that the Israeli government requested to replace about 10 prominent senior prisoners, without disclosing further details.

A Shin Bet official confirmed during a government session yesterday that “the agency stopped at every name of a Palestinian prisoner to be released, saying: ‘We understand the price well,'” according to the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation.

The memorandum of understanding signed in the city of Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, after indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas under the mediation of intermediaries, stipulated in one of its clauses the release of all living Israeli hostages held in Gaza, in exchange for the release of specifically named Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons, within 72 hours of the ceasefire taking effect. The operation is to be conducted without any direct media coverage, with only the Red Cross monitoring the process on the ground.

Simultaneously, Israel begins releasing “specific names with high sentences.”

Israel had previously received the list of living Israeli detainees, but has not yet handed over the list of prisoners to be released.

It is noteworthy that the Israeli government spokesperson, Shosh Badran, confirmed yesterday that the famous Fatah leader Marwan Barghouti will not be among those released.

Meanwhile, Israeli sources revealed that the bodies of former Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and his brother Mohammed, who was killed last May, will not be included in the exchange deal, according to the official Israeli Broadcasting Corporation.

This came after Hamas previously demanded the release of important figures including Fatah leader Marwan Barghouti, and Hamas leaders Abdullah Barghouti, Ibrahim Hamed, Hassan Salama, Abbas Al-Sayyed, and the Secretary-General of the Popular Front Organization Ahmed Saadat.
