On Thursday, President Donald Trump’s administration began airing a video in airports across the United States blaming Democrats for the ongoing government shutdown that has lasted 9 days and caused significant flight delays.

About 13,000 air traffic controllers and approximately 50,000 Transportation Security Administration (TSA) employees are still required to work during the shutdown but are not receiving pay. They are expected to receive partial back pay next week for work done before the shutdown began.

A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security confirmed that the video started airing in U.S. airports.

The video features Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen stating, “Democrats in Congress refuse to fund the federal government, and because of that, many of our operations have been affected, and most of our TSA employees are working without pay.”

Democratic lawmakers are refusing to vote in favor of a Republican-proposed bill that would provide temporary government funding because it does not include money to support health insurance for low-income Americans.

Republican and Democratic leaders exchange blame for the shutdown that began on October 1 after Congress failed to approve a new spending bill.
