The government has approved an agreement to end the war in Gaza and the withdrawal of Israeli forces within 24 hours, followed by the start of a prisoner exchange process.
Official Israeli sources reported that the Israeli government approved, in its emergency session early Friday, the main outlines of an agreement calling for the release of all prisoners in the Gaza Strip, alongside reaching a settlement to end the months-long war.
The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the government ratified the “general framework of the agreement,” marking the most significant step since the crisis began. According to Israel’s Channel 12, the agreement includes details related to the mechanisms for releasing prisoners and a mutual ceasefire.
However, the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation (Kan) indicated that ministers Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich voted against the agreement, reflecting internal division within the governing coalition over the terms of the deal.
This development comes after intensive negotiations mediated internationally, aiming to find a way out of the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with expectations that the full details of the agreement will be announced in the coming hours.
