Under the directives of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the Refugee Women’s Fund, President of the General Women’s Union, Chairwoman of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, and Honorary President of the UAE Red Crescent “Umm Al Emarat”, and with the follow-up of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Representative of the Ruler in the Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the UAE Red Crescent Authority, several health projects were inaugurated. These projects, implemented through initiatives of Sheikha Fatima’s Refugee Women’s Fund, included the Sheikha Fatima “Umm Al Emarat” Maternity and Childhood Hospital and the Sheikha Fatima “Umm Al Emarat” Dialysis Center on Anjouan Island.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the President of the Union of the Comoros, Othman Ghazali, Minister of State Dr. Maitha Salem Al Shamsi, UAE Ambassador to Moroni Jumaa Rashid Al Rumaithi, Secretary General of the UAE Red Crescent Ahmed Sari Al Mazrouei, alongside several officials from both sides.
The maternity and childhood hospital has a capacity of 20 beds and serves around 10,000 people annually. It includes vital facilities such as wards, intensive care units, natural delivery rooms, surgical operations, anesthesia, sterilization, neonatal intensive care, as well as administrative offices and lounges for doctors, nurses, and medical staff.
The dialysis center is the first of its kind on Anjouan Island, equipped with eight advanced dialysis units supported by a specialized water treatment unit to ensure the quality and safety of services using the latest technologies. It provides comprehensive support to patients and their families, with medical follow-up and periodic clinical evaluation, delivering about 5,000 dialysis sessions annually.
President Othman Ghazali expressed his sincere thanks and deep gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, for his continuous support and noble stances towards the Union of the Comoros. He also expressed high appreciation for the UAE as a key partner in the country’s development journey through impactful developmental projects and humanitarian initiatives that support sustainable development goals and enhance the quality of life for the Comorian people.
He emphasized the special importance of this health project as part of a series of development programs named after the great woman with an inspiring vision, Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak “Umm Al Emarat”, who continuously supports communities and is keen to promote development for the prosperity of peoples. He added that this pioneering project will contribute to a qualitative leap in developing the health sector in the Comoros and providing the best healthcare services to the population.
Dr. Maitha Al Shamsi conveyed the greetings of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak “Umm Al Emarat” to the government and people of the Union of the Comoros, wishing them progress and prosperity. She stated that this unique initiative reflects Her Highness’s concern for meeting the developmental and humanitarian needs of the Comorian people and her follow-up to improve women’s health and childhood care, in line with the UAE’s strategy of sustainable giving through ambitious developmental programs that deeply impact infrastructure rehabilitation and provide essential services to the brothers.
She added that the UAE’s programs and projects in the Union of the Comoros enjoy strong support from the wise leadership, which always seeks to enhance its efforts and initiatives in the Comorian arena. The Sheikha Fatima Maternity and Childhood Hospital and the Dialysis Center represent a real addition to these efforts and a qualitative leap in its developmental initiatives in the health sector in this country.
UAE Ambassador to Moroni Jumaa Rashid Al Rumaithi said the fraternal relations between the UAE and the Union of the Comoros represent a pioneering model of cooperation and development support, especially in health, education, and infrastructure. He confirmed that the opening of this vital health project is part of a series of developmental initiatives bearing the name “Umm Al Emarat” of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, who is a global symbol of giving and a fundamental pillar in promoting development and prosperity for the peoples of the region and the world.
Ahmed Sari Al Mazrouei, Secretary General of the UAE Red Crescent, said these projects come as a generous initiative from Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak “Umm Al Emarat”, who has always adopted creative initiatives that make a difference in development and reconstruction efforts in brotherly and friendly countries, especially projects concerned with improving the health of women and children.
Officials and residents in the Comoros expressed their thanks to Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak “Umm Al Emarat” for her noble initiatives in their country, expressing appreciation for the UAE and its wise leadership for their continuous support of their humanitarian causes.
