On Thursday, US President Donald Trump announced that the agreement between Israel and Hamas on the first phase of his plan ends the war in the Gaza Strip, stating he is committed to the agreed two-state solution. Israel announced that all parties signed the final draft of the agreement in Egypt.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi renewed his invitation to Trump in a phone call to attend the signing ceremony in Egypt marking the ceasefire in Gaza. Trump responded that he would try to travel to Egypt and confirmed he will visit Israel on Sunday and deliver a speech in the Knesset if requested. He also confirmed that hostages will be released by next Monday and that the US will be part of the peacekeeping efforts in Gaza.

Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social that he is proud to announce that Israel and Hamas agreed on the first phase of the plan. The agreement means all hostages will be released very soon and Israel will withdraw its forces to the agreed line, marking the first steps toward a strong, lasting, and eternal peace.

Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majid Al-Ansari said mediators announced agreement on all terms and mechanisms to implement the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, leading to the end of the war, release of Israeli detainees and Palestinian prisoners, and entry of aid.

A Hamas source said the first phase includes releasing the living Israeli hostages held in Gaza and more than two thousand Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons, including 250 serving life sentences and 1700 arrested after October 7, 2023. The phase also includes scheduled Israeli withdrawals from Gaza. A Palestinian official confirmed that twenty living Israeli hostages will be released.

In a TV interview, Trump said he expects the Israeli hostages to return on Monday and confirmed US participation in peacekeeping and reconstruction efforts in Gaza. He noted that wealthy regional countries will assist in rebuilding Gaza.

Hamas issued a statement confirming the agreement to end the war, Israeli army withdrawal, aid entry, and prisoner exchange, urging Trump to ensure Israel fully implements the agreement without delay or evasion.

Israel announced that all concerned parties signed the final draft of the first phase of Trump’s plan in Egypt, with the ceasefire to begin within 24 hours after approval by the security cabinet.

During a phone call, Egyptian President el-Sisi stressed the need to proceed with all phases of the ceasefire agreement and urged Trump to support and oversee its implementation. He said Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in reaching the ceasefire. El-Sisi expressed eagerness to host Trump in Egypt for the historic signing ceremony.

Trump said he will try to travel to Egypt to attend the signing ceremony and confirmed the agreement ended the Gaza war.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called Trump after the ceasefire agreement signing and invited him to speak before the Knesset, which Trump agreed to do if requested.
