US President Donald Trump responded to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s remarks about the agreement between Israel and Hamas on the first phase of a ceasefire in Gaza.
All countries and international organizations worldwide welcomed the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, with Hamas and Israel committing to implement the first phase of Trump’s peace plan for Gaza. Several countries, including the UAE, considered this agreement, reached in Egypt’s Sharm El-Sheikh, a positive step to end humanitarian suffering and open prospects for security and stability in the region.
Trump told Fox News that the agreement received broad international support, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi expressed his happiness at reaching a ceasefire and ending the war in Gaza after two years of suffering.
The UAE welcomed Trump’s announcement of the agreement on the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire framework, highlighting his prominent role in supporting this path and urging parties to reach urgent understandings to stop the tragic war and establish peace and stability in the Strip.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised the significant efforts led by the US president and commended the tireless efforts of Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey in facilitating the understandings that led to this agreement.
Saudi Arabia expressed hope that this important agreement would lead to urgent work to alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Palestinian people, complete Israeli withdrawal, restoration of security and stability, and practical steps towards achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.
Egypt’s Foreign Ministry welcomed the Israel-Hamas agreement, calling it a “turning point” in the Gaza war. Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi welcomed the ceasefire agreement and the mechanisms for implementing its first phase.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas expressed hope that the agreement would be a step towards a permanent political solution ending the occupation and establishing the State of Palestine. Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit welcomed the mediators’ announcement of the agreement on the first phase of the peace plan. Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Yamahi also welcomed the ceasefire agreement as an important step to stop the bloodshed and establish just and comprehensive peace.
Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary-General Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi said the agreement represents new hope to alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza. Internationally, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed the agreement, stating: “All hostages must be released humanely. A permanent ceasefire agreement must be reached. Fighting must stop completely. Suffering must end.” British Prime Minister Keir Starmer welcomed the agreement and urged its full and prompt implementation. French President Emmanuel Macron affirmed his country’s readiness to continue pursuing the two-state solution and end the war.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan thanked his American counterpart after reaching the Gaza ceasefire agreement, expressing his “great satisfaction.” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen praised the diplomatic efforts by the US, Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey to end the Gaza war. The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced its support for the Gaza ceasefire agreement proposed by Trump, affirming Tehran’s welcome of any initiative leading to war cessation, Israeli withdrawal, humanitarian aid entry, Palestinian prisoner release, and realization of Palestinian rights.
China expressed hope for a “permanent and comprehensive” ceasefire in Gaza as soon as possible and for effective easing of the humanitarian crisis and regional tensions. It added that China supports the principle of Palestinians managing Palestine and endorses the two-state solution. Russia also welcomed the agreement, hoping it would be followed by “actions” to end the two-year-long war.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that “the approval of a ceasefire agreement now in Gaza can only cause general relief. We welcome all these efforts,” adding, “We hope the signing will be followed by actions to implement the understandings.”
