Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed today, Thursday, the announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump of reaching an agreement to stop the war on the Gaza Strip, the withdrawal of occupation forces, the entry of humanitarian aid, and the exchange of prisoners.
He expressed hope that these efforts would be a prelude to reaching a permanent political solution as announced by President Trump, leading to the end of the Israeli occupation of the land of the State of Palestine and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
He praised the great efforts made by President Trump and all mediators to reach this agreement, affirming the State of Palestine’s readiness to work with mediators and relevant partners to ensure the success of these efforts to achieve lasting and just stability and peace according to international legitimacy.
He stressed the necessity for all parties to immediately implement the agreement, release all hostages and prisoners, allow urgent humanitarian aid through United Nations organizations, ensure no displacement or annexation, and begin the reconstruction process.
He renewed the affirmation that sovereignty over the Gaza Strip belongs to the State of Palestine, and that the connection between the West Bank and Gaza Strip must be through Palestinian laws and governmental institutions, by a Palestinian administrative committee and unified Palestinian security forces, within one system and law, supported by Arab and international parties.
