Algiers, October 9, 2025 (WAL) – Tunisia and Algeria signed a new military cooperation agreement aimed at enhancing security and defense coordination between the two countries, during an official visit by Tunisian Defense Minister Khaled Souhaili to Algeria from October 6 to 8.
This agreement comes within the framework of the strong brotherly and historical relations between the two countries, reaffirming their commitment to developing bilateral cooperation mechanisms to face common security challenges, foremost among them terrorism, human trafficking, irregular migration, and transnational organized crime.
Minister Souhaili emphasized during the signing ceremony Tunisia’s keenness to elevate military cooperation with Algeria to the highest levels, highlighting the importance of exchanging expertise and enhancing field coordination between the two armies.
For his part, General Saïd Chengriha, Chief of Staff of the Algerian People’s National Army, stressed that the agreement represents a strategic step to deepen the defense partnership and enhance the operational capabilities of both countries.
The agreement covers multiple areas, most notably training, information exchange, and field coordination to secure the shared borders, thereby strengthening the countries’ ability to confront current security challenges.
This agreement also extends the bilateral cooperation established under the defense cooperation agreement signed between the two countries in 2001.
