Three Israeli military units began withdrawing from Gaza City on Thursday, preparing to implement US President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war and exchange prisoners.

The official Israeli Broadcasting Corporation stated: “Three combat units in Gaza City started evacuating their forces from the city and refugee camps in its outskirts last night.”

On early Thursday, Trump announced an agreement between Israel and the resistance movement Hamas on the first phase of his plan to stop the war and exchange prisoners.

The corporation mentioned concerns about clashes with Palestinians who will try to return north today, so the forces are preparing to leave the city and its suburbs and move to the ‘yellow line.’

The ‘yellow line’ is the first withdrawal line stipulated in Trump’s plan.

The Israeli government is scheduled to approve the agreement on Thursday, paving the way for its implementation, including a gradual withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli occupation army had previously announced in recent weeks that three military units operate in and around Gaza City.

With US support, Israel has been committing a genocide in Gaza since October 8, 2023, resulting in 67,183 deaths and 169,841 injuries, most of them children and women, and a famine that claimed 460 Palestinian lives including 154 children.

Israel has occupied Palestine and territories in Syria and Lebanon for decades, refusing to withdraw or allow the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on pre-1967 borders.
