The streets of Gaza witnessed celebrations early Thursday following the announcement of a ceasefire agreement that ends the war in the Gaza Strip, as part of the peace plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Social media users shared videos showing the joy of Gaza residents over the ceasefire agreement announced by President Trump between Israel and Hamas.

Videos also showed journalists roaming the streets of Gaza City to inform residents about the ceasefire agreement.

Israel and Hamas reached an agreement on the first phase of Trump’s Gaza plan, which includes a ceasefire and the release of hostages, potentially paving the way to end a deadly war ongoing for two years.

Just one day after the second anniversary of Hamas’s attack on Israel, which led to a devastating Israeli offensive on Gaza, indirect talks hosted by Egypt resulted in an agreement on the first phase of the 20-point framework proposed by Trump aimed at establishing peace in the region.

Trump said in a post on Truth Social, “I am honored to announce that Israel and Hamas have signed the first phase of our peace plan.”

He added, “This means all hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw its forces to an agreed line as initial steps toward a strong, lasting, and sustainable peace.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement, “With God’s help, we will bring them all home,” referring to hostages held by Hamas, adding he will hold a government meeting on Thursday to approve the agreement.

Hamas confirmed reaching an agreement to end the war, stating the deal “ends the war on Gaza, the withdrawal of the occupation, the entry of aid, and the exchange of prisoners.”

It added, “We call on President Trump, the guarantor countries of the agreement, and various Arab, Islamic, and international parties to compel the occupation government to fully implement the agreement’s provisions and not allow it to renege or delay the application of what was agreed upon.”
