US President Donald Trump called for the imprisonment of Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, demanding an investigation into Senator Richard Blumenthal.

Trump said on his platform “Truth Social” that the Chicago mayor “should be in jail for failing to protect Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers,” adding that Governor Pritzker “should face the same fate.” Neither Johnson nor Pritzker responded to Trump’s statements.

The escalation coincided with a US military official announcing the arrival of about 200 National Guard members at a base near Chicago, preparing to deploy in the city “to protect federal property and government operations” for 60 days, extendable.

Furthermore, Trump expanded his attack to Congress, calling for an investigation into Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal, accusing him of lying about his military service in Vietnam. The president wrote on his platform: “Richard Blumenthal, the hypocrite who pretended to be a war hero, should not be in the Senate.

The 79-year-old Senator Blumenthal served in the Marine Corps Reserve but did not see combat in Vietnam.
