Israeli Channel “Kan” reported that the Israeli negotiating delegation in Sharm El-Sheikh agreed to release Palestinian prisoner Ahmed Saadat, as part of a list including some prisoners serving long sentences “life imprisonment.”

Israel’s announcement of its readiness to release the Secretary-General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine comes within a prisoner exchange deal scheduled in the first phase of Trump’s plan regarding Gaza. Earlier today, Hamas announced that its delegation exchanged lists of prisoners it wants released with the Israeli delegation through mediators, headed by Marwan Barghouti and Ahmed Saadat.

Ahmed Saadat, Secretary-General of the Popular Front, was arrested in 2006 and is currently serving a 30-year prison sentence. He had been arrested at least seven times before his current detention, which has continued since 2006.

During his years in detention, he faced years of visitation bans and solitary confinement. After his experience in isolation, Saadat managed to publish a book titled “Echo of the Shackles,” which dealt with the policy of solitary confinement in Israeli prisons, according to the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club.

Saadat is 4 children and has 4 grandchildren.

Born in 1953 in Al-Bireh, Ramallah Governorate, Israel arrested him six times between 1976 and 1993.

Israel accuses Ahmed Saadat of orchestrating the assassination of Israeli Tourism Minister Rehavam Ze’evi in 2001.

If the news of his release is confirmed, he will be among the first names serving life sentences to be released by Israel in an attempt to advance an agreement desired by US President Donald Trump before Friday, the official announcement date of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize winner.
