A new round of talks is scheduled for Wednesday regarding US President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip, following indirect talks between Hamas and Israel two days earlier.

Today’s talks include Qatar, the United States, Turkey, and Egypt, which is hosting the talks in Sharm El Sheikh. Participants include Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Turkish Intelligence Chief Ibrahim Kalin, Trump’s envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, and Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer.

Indirect talks between Hamas and Israel began on Monday, October 6, 2025, in Sharm El Sheikh and lasted four hours. They continued positively on Tuesday, according to two informed sources.

The discussions focused on mechanisms for handing over Israeli detainees, both alive and deceased, in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails, Israeli withdrawal maps, the entry of aid with the start of a ceasefire, and handing over the administration of the Gaza Strip to an independent Palestinian committee. Hamas also demanded clarification of the mechanisms and procedures necessary to implement Trump’s plan and guarantees against a return of Israeli aggression on Gaza.

Trump’s plan includes a clause stating that once all detainees are released, Israel will free 250 prisoners serving life sentences, in addition to 1,700 Palestinians from Gaza arrested after October 7, 2023, including all women and children detained in that context. For every Israeli detainee whose body is returned, Israel will release the remains of 15 Palestinians.

The talks come after Hamas agreed to release all detainees in the Gaza Strip in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners.

A Hamas leader said the delegation in Egypt is working to overcome all obstacles to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza that meets the aspirations of the Palestinian people, adding that the ceasefire proposals, including Trump’s plan, have been handled with high responsibility.

Trump said that once an agreement to end the war in Gaza is reached, “we will do everything possible to ensure everyone abides by it.”

Trump published his 20-point plan to end the Gaza war on Monday, September 29, 2025, which still requires the approval of the concerned parties and includes his chairing a committee overseeing the transitional phase in the Strip.
