Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasil, the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, delivered a statement on behalf of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) before the Sixth Committee of the UN General Assembly, addressing the group’s positions on combating terrorism and enhancing international security.

Al-Wasil affirmed the condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and stressed that it is not linked to any religion or culture. He emphasized the importance of respecting state sovereignty and territorial integrity, calling for a comprehensive approach to combating terrorism and addressing its root causes such as occupation, poverty, and aggression, while distinguishing between terrorism and the legitimate right of peoples to resist occupation.

The group renewed its condemnation of the Israeli occupation and its crimes against Palestinians, as well as attacks on Lebanon, Iran, Syria, and Qatar. It also rejected US and Israeli attacks on Iran, including Iran’s right to self-defense.

The Permanent Representative expressed the OIC’s solidarity with Pakistan and condemned Indian strikes in Jammu and Kashmir, affirming support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.

He highlighted the importance of strengthening the UN strategy to combat terrorism and addressing phenomena such as Islamophobia and racism, praising the role of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Centre (UNCCT).

The statement called for the completion of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism (CCIT), emphasizing the distinction between terrorism and legitimate struggle, and supporting the convening of a high-level UN conference to address legal issues and enhance international cooperation.
