United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated that “a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and a credible political process are essential to prevent further bloodshed.”
Guterres affirmed in a press statement last night that the United Nations is committed to supporting peace efforts in the region and worldwide.
The Secretary-General called for an immediate halt to hostilities in Gaza, Israel, and the region, emphasizing that civilians should not pay the price of the conflict with their lives and futures.
He added: On the anniversary of October 7, let us commemorate all victims by working towards a just and lasting peace where Israelis, Palestinians, and the peoples of the region live side by side in security, dignity, and mutual respect.
Guterres considered the recent proposal presented by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Gaza as an opportunity that must be seized to end the “tragic conflict.”
