The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Libyan Government of National Unity condemned the Israeli forces’ detention of the ship “Omar Al-Mukhtar” as part of the “Freedom Flotilla” aiming to break the blockade on Gaza, holding Tel Aviv fully responsible for the safety of its crew.
The Ministry called on the international community to urgently act to release them and ensure their return to Libya.
Meanwhile, the Libyan High Council of State condemned the targeting of the “Global Freedom Flotilla” and the Libyan ship, considering it a direct violation of national sovereignty and the dignity of the people.
The Council demanded immediate intervention to release the activists and guarantee the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
For its part, the Libyan Dar Al-Ifta described the incident as a blatant crime and aggression, affirming that supporting the oppressed is a religious and moral duty.
Dar Al-Ifta also called for widespread popular and official action to support Gaza, holding the government responsible for following up the case and prosecuting the occupying entity before international courts.
Earlier, the Israeli Foreign Ministry stated that “the provocation of the Freedom Flotilla has ended,” confirming that none of the flotilla’s ships succeeded in breaking the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip.
The Ministry added that all members of the “Freedom Flotilla” are alive and in good health and are heading to the Ashdod port for later deportation.
The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation reported that the Israeli army took control of more than 40 ships and boats participating in the “Freedom Flotilla.”
The corporation said that hundreds of flotilla participants were taken to Ashdod port for deportation from Israel, confirming that the Israeli army is conducting extensive sea sweeps to ensure no boats approach Gaza.
Meanwhile, the Freedom Flotilla organizers reported that the ship “Mekino,” one of the international “Freedom Flotilla” ships, succeeded at dawn in breaking the naval blockade imposed on Gaza and reached Palestinian territorial waters despite more than 20 interception attempts, but the Israeli Foreign Ministry denied this.
On Wednesday evening, the Israeli navy attacked the “Global Freedom Flotilla” to break the blockade on Gaza in international waters and ordered it to head to Ashdod port.
It is noteworthy that the “Freedom Flotilla,” which set off at the end of last August from Spain, includes dozens of ships and boats carrying hundreds of activists from more than 40 countries.
