Samir Omar, head of the news channels sector at the United Media Services Company, commented on US President Donald Trump’s statements regarding Egypt’s role in mediating a ceasefire and delivering aid to Gaza, affirming that Egypt “does not need Trump’s recognition,” as its role is acknowledged by everyone, from Gulf leaders to the Turkish and Indonesian presidents.
Omar explained during his interview with journalist Nashat al-Dihei on the program “With Paper and Pen” aired on TeN TV on Monday evening that Trump tried to cover his plan with an Arab and Islamic cover, but the main obstacles lie in the statements of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who confirmed his rejection of the establishment of a Palestinian state and considered its existence “a danger to Israel.”
He considered that Netanyahu tries to present himself as a “man of peace,” but the events of October 7 turned him into a “man of war,” and this Israeli stance places a fundamental obstacle before any political plan.
He continued, “It is not expected that Hamas will accept all these details, including their exit and disarmament, and there may be an attempt to reconcile on this issue, especially since the first and second-tier leaders of Hamas are gone and the resistance has lost a lot after October 7, whether in Iran or Hezbollah.”
He added, “I imagine Netanyahu wants to corner Hamas in a position of rejection to create a justification for continuing the war and maintaining his political power inside Israel.”
In another context, he criticized the demonstrations that took place in front of the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus and attacked Egypt, considering them a continuation of the trend of exaggerating the role that Cairo plays in the Palestinian cause.
