Hopeful prospects appeared on the horizon when US President Donald Trump’s proposal included ending the war, rebuilding Gaza, preventing the displacement of the Palestinian people, and advancing comprehensive peace. He also declared he would not allow the annexation of the West Bank. However, this horizon turned into many questions when looking at the details, especially since the devil is always in the details. The first question is: why follow a maneuvering policy again despite talking about a logical and realistic peace to end suffering and stop the extermination of children and civilians?

This means that what has happened and is happening might be a political maneuver serving Israel and its goals, fulfilling Netanyahu’s conditions. The first of these Israeli gains, in my opinion, is easing the pressure after the rising international momentum in the United Nations corridors and recognitions of the State of Palestine. Especially since the plan did not include the idea of a two-state solution; all it brought was a proposal to manage the Gaza Strip without clear mechanisms, leaving the matter to Israel and the sincerity of its intentions and decisions. Moreover, the idea of involving Tony Blair reflects colonial and occupation signals and reveals future intentions that offer no hope or expectation.

It should also be noted that Netanyahu’s goal is to prolong the conflict for political and personal reasons. Therefore, he has no readiness for any substantial concessions. Accordingly, the rejection of the initiative by Arab parties may open the door to a new wave of Israeli military surplus starting from Gaza, and the political cover for this wave will simply be that the Arabs rejected it and that the Palestinian factions have no choice but to implement what Israel wants by force, far from just and realistic peace.
