France, Germany, and Sweden announced on Monday the deployment of military forces equipped with radars and helicopters to the Danish capital, Copenhagen, to strengthen its air defenses against drones, ahead of this week’s European Union summits.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, according to Politico magazine, said his country deployed the Swedish Armed Forces to support Denmark with military capabilities against drones as part of the summits to be held this week, explaining that Sweden will provide Copenhagen with advanced radar systems temporarily.

In the same context, the French Ministry of Defense announced the deployment of 35 soldiers and a “Vink” helicopter, in addition to special systems to counter drones, stressing that these threats represent a “serious danger.”

Germany has strengthened its military presence by sending the frigate “Hamburg” to the port of Copenhagen at the end of last week, alongside deploying about 40 soldiers to participate in drone detection and countermeasures.

This security move comes ahead of the European Council meeting on Wednesday to discuss defense and Ukraine issues, followed by the European Political Community meeting on Thursday, with leaders from various countries across the continent participating.

It is noted that Denmark experienced last week a wave of drone sightings near major airports and military bases, causing flight disruptions and confusion for thousands of travelers.
