What comes after the International Palestinian Conference?
A series of important successive international conferences held in New York have created cumulative leverage for Palestine and gradual political setbacks for the Israeli settler-colony. Optimistic observers concluded that these are practical beginnings approaching the actual birth of the Palestinian state on the ground, as a result of international alignments. Conversely, the same “optimistic observers” affirm that these important political developments mark the start of the decline and defeat of the Israeli colonial expansionist project.
These optimistic observers base their conclusions on the experience of apartheid South Africa, where power was held by white racists controlling the state’s levers absolutely. After Europe withdrew its cover, only the United States remained supporting the apartheid regime, which collapsed once the U.S. abandoned its support.
Europe and its countries that created the Israeli colony, especially Britain and France, along with many European countries, withdrew their support and bias for the colony, leaving the United States alone as the sole cover, support, and backing for Israel.
The International Conference to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, held on 22 September 2025 at a Saudi-French initiative and attended by 125 countries, announced the “New York Statement” which was voted for by 142 countries.
The international conference complemented and even surpassed the 29 November 2012 decision to accept Palestine as a non-member observer state at the United Nations, which opened a broad gateway for Palestine to have unprecedented presence.
The conference coincided with Britain and France recognizing the Palestinian state, both of which had previously contributed to the creation of the colony on Palestinian land, denying the Palestinian people their right to a state since the partition decision on 29 November 1947 and the establishment of the colony on 15 May 1948, alongside the complete marginalization of Palestine as a political issue and the Palestinian people as a cohesive identity and group, which was fragmented and erased.
Following the conference statement and European recognitions of Palestine, U.S. President Trump received Arab and Muslim leaders on Tuesday, 23 September 2025, resulting in two important outcomes according to Trump’s statements: 1- No occupation of Gaza Strip, 2- No annexation of the West Bank, and the presentation of the “Trump Initiative” consisting of 21 points.
On Wednesday, 24 September 2025, U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff met with Arab and Muslim foreign ministers to discuss the Trump Initiative and its 21 points.
On Friday, 26 September 2025, representatives of 12 countries met in New York and formed an alliance to financially support the Palestinian Authority. Participants included Saudi Arabia, France, Britain, Japan, Spain, Denmark, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Slovenia, and Switzerland, indicating the quality of participating countries. According to a statement by the Spanish Foreign Ministry: “This emergency alliance was established to sustain the finances of the Palestinian Authority and respond to an unprecedented financial crisis.” This was in response to the colony’s actions aiming to destroy the Palestinian Authority by withholding its dues from customs and taxes, impoverishing it, spreading lies about its corruption. Due to the financial crisis, allocations for education, health, and social services decreased, and the monthly salary payments to employees dropped to less than 50% of their salaries.
A series of international meetings have created unprecedented leverage for Palestine, its cause, and people. This will impact the meeting between Trump and Netanyahu on Monday, 29 September 2025. What is expected after this series of significant qualitative developments in favor of Palestine?
