Brussels, 29 September 2025 (WAL) – The European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, stated that the re-imposition of comprehensive sanctions on Iran’s nuclear program should not mark the end of diplomacy with Iran.
In a statement reported by the EU-focused news network “Euractiv,” Kallas noted that “although the EU will follow the United Nations’ steps in re-imposing sanctions, the EU believes that a sustainable solution to the Iranian nuclear issue can only be achieved through negotiations.”
This statement comes following a United Nations Security Council decision imposing comprehensive economic and military sanctions on Iran after ten years since their lifting under a significant international agreement on its nuclear program.
The Council made this decision after the United Kingdom, France, and Germany activated the so-called “snapback” mechanism, accusing Iran of “ongoing nuclear escalation” and “lack of cooperation.”
