JD Vance, the US Vice President, said on Sunday that the United States is considering Ukraine’s request to obtain long-range Tomahawk missiles to help it counter Russian attacks.

Vance added in an interview with Fox News that President Donald Trump will make the final decision regarding the potential deal.

He continued, “We are definitely looking at a number of requests submitted by Europeans.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had requested the US to sell these missiles to European countries that would then send them to Ukraine.

Zelensky said yesterday that his country is ready to make additional deals with the US to supply weapons, including long-range weapons, alongside the current $90 billion agreement.

The range of Tomahawk missiles reaches up to 2,500 kilometers, making them powerful weapons in Ukraine’s arsenal as it faces a barrage of Russian missile and drone attacks.

The US President had previously rejected Ukraine’s requests to use long-range missiles but has recently expressed disappointment over Russian President Vladimir Putin’s refusal to reach a peace agreement and threatened to impose heavy sanctions on Moscow.

If a Tomahawk missile deal goes through, Russia would consider it an escalation in its war with Ukraine.

Kyiv previously received long-range missiles including the British “Storm Shadow” with a range of 250 kilometers, but it used them only within its territory against Russian forces.

Following recent large-scale Russian attacks on Ukraine, the Ukrainian president threatened to strike power centers in Moscow, and the Kremlin dismissed Zelensky’s threats with disdain.
