The military escalation between Russia and Ukraine continues on Monday, with explosions reported in Kherson city, controlled by Kyiv, early this morning, according to the Ukrainian newspaper “Obshchestvennoye.” The newspaper noted that air raid sirens in the city were not activated, without providing further details.
Meanwhile, Andrei Vorobyov, governor of the Moscow region, stated in a Telegram post that two people were killed in a drone attack on the region overnight.
Separately, Vyacheslav Gladkov, governor of Russia’s Belgorod region, announced that Ukrainian forces targeted towns in the region with more than 50 shells and over 110 drones in the past day, resulting in two deaths, five injuries, and some damage.
Additionally, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance said on Sunday that the United States is considering Ukraine’s request to acquire long-range Tomahawk missiles to support its efforts to repel the Russian invasion.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had requested the U.S. to sell these missiles to European countries, which would then send them to Ukraine.
Vance told Fox News Sunday that former President Trump would make the “final decision” on whether to approve the deal.
Tomahawk missiles have a range of up to 2,500 kilometers and would be a powerful addition to Ukraine’s arsenal.
Russia is certain to view such arms supplies as an escalation in the war in Ukraine.
Previously, Trump rejected Ukraine’s requests for long-range missiles but was frustrated by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s refusal to reach a peace agreement.
