Palestine Liberation Organization institutions and civil society organizations held a meeting today, Sunday, to discuss preparations for trying the Israeli occupation for war crimes and genocide before the Global Conscience Court, in partnership between the General Union of Palestinian Women and the Women’s International Democratic Federation.
Member of the PLO Executive Committee and Head of the Popular Organizations Department, Wassel Abu Yusuf, said the Women’s International Democratic Federation launched this initiative internationally, highlighting the international popular role in influencing Western governments towards political recognition of the State of Palestine.
He added that since Palestine joined the International Criminal Court in 2015, it has documented many occupation crimes and achieved tangible results in condemning it and several of its military and political fronts, stressing that the escalating aggression since October 2023 represents a comprehensive genocide war targeting the Palestinian people and their historical and legal rights.
Abu Yusuf emphasized five necessities in this context: activating international resolutions without isolation, immediate cessation of war, stopping the terrorism practiced by the occupation state in the region, rejecting all forms of forced or soft displacement, and rescuing the Palestinian people by reactivating the work of international institutions such as UNRWA, the World Food Program, UNICEF, alongside organizations like the Red Cross and Red Crescent, International Islamic Relief, World Vision, Premier Agencies International, and Action Against Hunger, stressing the importance of stopping what he called the “inhumane Gaza institution.”
He confirmed that this international popular trial adds momentum to official efforts towards accountability and supports the Palestinian narrative and rights before peoples and international bodies.
The session was opened by the Chairwoman of the General Union of Palestinian Women, Intisar Al-Wazir, who confirmed that the Women’s International Democratic Federation, in which the General Union holds the position of vice president, is a global women’s struggle framework on issues of peace, liberation, equality, and opposition to fascism, colonialism, and racial discrimination. She pointed to its efforts since the beginning of the aggression on Gaza in October 2023 to condemn the occupation for war crimes in Gaza and Lebanon, especially after the ceasefire agreement sponsored by international parties.
She added that these efforts require support from governmental and popular institutions and civil society organizations to ensure the success of the trial scheduled for February 2026.
For her part, member of the Women’s International Democratic Federation Secretariat, Haitham Arrar, explained that the trial’s goal is to document Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people and the peoples of the region, paving the way for condemning the occupation before the International Criminal Court and preventing impunity.
It is noteworthy that the Global Conscience Court is a non-governmental judicial body aiming to translate human rights issues into legal procedures before international courts and diplomatic institutions.
