Michigan, September 29, 2025 – Police reported that at least four people were killed and eight others injured after an armed man rammed his car into a church in Michigan, opened fire, and set the building on fire. The suspect used an accelerant—most likely gasoline—to start the blaze, causing severe damage to the structure, according to local media sources.
Officials said the attack targeted The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, a town located 100 kilometers northwest of Detroit, during a Sunday service attended by hundreds of people.
The suspect was identified as 40-year-old Thomas Jacob Sanford from Burton, Michigan. He was shot and neutralized by police later in the church parking lot.
Authorities are investigating the incident as an act of deliberate violence but say the motive remains unclear.
At a press conference held Sunday evening, William Rene, Chief of Police of Grand Blanc, stated that two victims died from gunshot wounds.
Later, Rene said two more deceased were found, and the fate of some others remains unknown, although he could not specify their number.
