A car license plate number was sold for over two million dollars at a charity auction held today (Monday) in the Jordanian capital, Amman, with proceeds dedicated to the Student Support Fund, according to the auction organizers.

The number (7 – 1) achieved the highest revenue in the public auction organized by the Drivers and Vehicles Licensing Department for distinctive car registration plate numbers in coordination with the Ministry of Finance, being sold for a record amount of 1,575,000 Jordanian dinars (2.22 million dollars).

The number (33 – 1) was sold for 510,000 dinars (719,000 dollars), and the number (44-44) for 420,000 dinars (592,000 dollars), while the number (777-1) generated 260,000 dinars (366,000 dollars) and the number (9999 – 1) 270,000 dinars (380,000 dollars).

The official Jordanian channel Al Mamlaka reported that the auction proceeds go to the Student Support Fund to enable the government to expand the base of beneficiaries, ease the financial burdens on students and their families, and help enhance higher education opportunities for Jordanian youth.

The Student Support Fund at official Jordanian universities provides grants and loans to financially disadvantaged Jordanian students at diploma and master’s levels, helping families cope with the often high costs of financing their children’s education.
