US envoy to Ukraine Keith Kellogg stated on Sunday on Fox News that the possibility of Kyiv striking deep into Russia with American weapons is on the table, while the Kremlin dismissed these threats.
In response to whether US President Donald Trump had authorized Ukraine to use long-range missiles against Russia, Kellogg said, “Based on what Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have said, the answer is yes.”
He added, “They have used capabilities to strike deep. There are no impregnable fortresses.”
In statements to Fox News, the US Vice President said Washington is considering selling long-range Tomahawk missiles to Europeans for delivery to Ukraine.
Vice President Pence said, “As the President (Trump) said, we are discussing the matter,” noting that Washington is looking at “a number of European requests,” and the President will “make the final decision in the best interest of the United States.”
On the other hand, Moscow sought to downplay these statements. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said during a press briefing on Monday, “There is no antidote capable of resolving the situation on Kyiv regime’s front. There is no magic weapon, whether Tomahawk missiles or others. They change nothing.”
These statements come amid a noticeable shift in the US stance on the war in Ukraine.
Last week, the US President said Ukraine could reclaim all its territories from Russia “and even beyond,” after months of suggesting Kyiv might have to give up some lands.
Meanwhile, Vice President Pence said Trump’s patience with Moscow is running out, while US Secretary of State called on his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov to stop the “slaughter” in Ukraine.
