Engineer Tamer Al-Habbal, a leader of the Future of the Nation Party, affirmed that the demonstrations witnessed at the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus against Egypt can only be seen as suspicious attempts aimed at undermining Cairo’s historic role towards Syria. He stressed that these voices do not represent the Syrian people nor reflect the true brotherly relations between the two countries.

Al-Habbal added in a statement today that since the outbreak of the Syrian crisis, Egypt has stood alongside the people, hosting hundreds of thousands of families and providing humanitarian support at all levels, at a time when other countries were closing their doors or imposing strict restrictions on Syrians entering their territories.

He said: “The Syrian people found in Egypt a second homeland, living in safety and dignity, without refugee camps or discrimination, which makes any hostile chants against Egypt incomprehensible and not reflective of tangible reality.”

Al-Habbal explained that Cairo has remained committed to its firm political stance rejecting any attempts to divide Syria or interfere in its internal affairs, pointing out that Egypt has played a pivotal role in the Arab League and international forums to defend the unity of Syrian territories and protect state institutions from collapse.

He pointed out that the Egyptian-Syrian relations are deeper than what limited demonstrations or slogans disconnected from reality could shake, affirming that history testifies to the unity of destiny between the two peoples, starting from the unity period in the 1950s through the wars fought by the two countries defending the Arab nation.

Al-Habbal considered these suspicious movements aimed at distorting facts and falsifying awareness, affirming that the Syrian people greatly appreciate Egypt’s positions, which did not exploit their crisis but dealt with their cause from a humanitarian and fraternal perspective, and that attempts to distort will not succeed in erasing what Cairo has offered in sacrifices and firm stances in favor of Syria and its people.
