The Weimar Triangle countries—Poland, Germany, and France—have called on Israel to stop its settlement plans in the occupied Palestinian territories, including the “E1” settlement plan east of occupied Jerusalem, which threatens the possibility of establishing an independent Palestinian state.
The foreign ministers of Poland, Radosław Sikorski, Germany, Johann Wadephul, and France, Jean-Noël Barrot, expressed deep concern about the situation in the Middle East in a joint statement, emphasizing the urgent need to reach a ceasefire in Gaza and ensure unhindered humanitarian aid access throughout the territory, in coordination with the United Nations and relevant parties.
The statement stressed the immediate cessation of Israeli military operations in Gaza City, noting that these operations cause mass displacement of Palestinians, loss of lives, and destruction of infrastructure. It also reaffirmed the three countries’ commitment to the two-state solution and called for the swift implementation of measures outlined in the “New York Declaration.”
The “New York Declaration” calls for recognition of the Palestinian state and granting it full UN membership, an immediate halt to the war in Gaza, release of all hostages and detainees, withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip, urgent opening of all crossings, and allowing unrestricted humanitarian aid access, while condemning the siege and considering the use of starvation as a weapon a blatant violation of international humanitarian law.
