US President Donald Trump announced a detailed plan aimed at ending the war in the Gaza Strip and achieving “lasting peace” in the Middle East.
This came during a joint press conference held on Monday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following a closed-door meeting at the White House.
Trump warned that Hamas’s rejection of the offer would lead to full American support for Israel in any comprehensive military attack on Gaza.
He said, “Today we are working on a comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, not just Gaza,” emphasizing that the negotiations “will achieve eternal peace in the region.”
He added that the meeting with Netanyahu was “extremely vital,” covering multiple aspects including “how to end the war in Gaza, dealing with Iran, and expanding the Abraham Accords.”
Trump expressed appreciation for the Arab and Islamic countries that contributed, according to him, to shaping the peace proposal, confirming that Netanyahu agreed to the plan which includes a ceasefire and prisoner exchange.
He said, “We are very close to reaching a peace agreement regarding Gaza,” clarifying that “all parties agreed to the plan except Hamas, which remains the only remaining party.”
Trump pointed out that his plan includes “the immediate release of all hostages within 72 hours of the agreement taking effect,” adding that “the remains of Israelis will be returned immediately to their families.”
The plan also calls for “complete disarmament of the Gaza Strip and destruction of Hamas’s military infrastructure,” noting that “dealing with Hamas will be the responsibility of our Arab and Muslim partners.”
In a clear message to Hamas leadership, Trump said, “If Hamas agrees to this proposal, the war will stop immediately, and they want to finalize the agreement, which is good.” But he warned, “If Hamas rejects this agreement, Netanyahu will get our full support to do what is necessary.”
Trump announced that the plan includes “an agreed timeline for the phased withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza,” confirming that “Arab and Islamic countries will take direct responsibilities in the transitional phase.”
He described the moment as “historic,” saying, “For the first time in thousands of years, we have reached this stage.”
Among the key points of his plan, Trump revealed an initiative to “establish a new international supervisory body over Gaza called the Peace Council,” adding, “I will personally chair this council in Gaza, with the participation of Tony Blair,” referring to the former British Prime Minister who played a role in previous negotiations in the region.
Trump criticized the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza in 2005, describing it from his perspective as a “bad deal” as a “real estate man,” and said, “Hamas was elected by the Palestinians, and Israel withdrew from Gaza, but what happened afterward was not peace. Israelis were generous when they gave up the territory, but the result was catastrophic.”
Speaking about the political solution, Trump referred to Netanyahu’s opposition to the establishment of a Palestinian state, saying, “Netanyahu strongly opposes the establishment of a Palestinian state, and I understand that. He is a warrior, and Israel is lucky to have him.” But he added, “The people want peace and normalization. I have great popularity in Israel, and they chant my name there to end the war.”
He confirmed that his plan aims to “end the war immediately, recover the hostages, and establish sustainable conditions for Israel’s security and Palestinian success,” calling on Palestinians to “fully condemn terrorism.” He warned, “If the Palestinian Authority does not complete the reform requirements, they have no one to blame but themselves.”
Trump announced that “in a few days, the gunfire in Gaza must cease,” affirming that “everyone wants the war to end, hostages to be recovered, and peace to be achieved.”
He also linked his plan to expanding regional normalization, saying, “I personally negotiated the Abraham Accords, and my plan will expand them, and Iran may join.” He added optimistically, “Tehran joining the Abraham Accords would be great.”
Trump recalled his previous “bold” positions, saying, “I withdrew from the terrible Iranian nuclear deal imposed by Obama and Biden on Israel, and we destroyed Iran’s uranium enrichment capability.” He also noted that “despite world leaders begging me not to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, I recognized it,” adding, “I also recognized Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights and cut funding to the corrupt UNRWA.”
During the conference, Trump did not hide his pride in his relations with Israel, saying, “The United States has never had a better president for Israel than me.”
Trump revealed details of a phone call he made before the conference with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, describing it as “historic” and “productive,” saying, “The Qatari Prime Minister is a wonderful person, and the call was excellent.” He added, “I thank the State of Qatar and His Highness Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who is an amazing person who wants peace,” praising “Qatar’s pivotal role as a mediator.”
He confirmed that “our Arab and Muslim partners are ready to take on their responsibilities towards Gaza,” calling on Hamas to “accept my plan without delay.” Trump concluded his speech by saying, “I look forward to building relationships with everyone as the chairman of the Peace Council on Gaza. Funding is essential to achieve accomplishments in Gaza, and we will build a safer future for all,” confirming that “the plan to end the war in Gaza was completed quickly, and all parties expressed their willingness to participate.”
