Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised US President Donald Trump’s twenty-point plan to end the war in Gaza in a video statement from Washington.
Netanyahu said in the video posted on his X page: “It was a historic visit. Instead of Hamas isolating us, we turned the tables and succeeded in isolating them.”
He added, “Now, the whole world is pressuring Hamas to accept the conditions we set with Trump to return all the captives,” according to the Times of Israel website which also published the video.
He continued, “We will oppose the establishment of a Palestinian state because that would be a reward for terrorism.”
Earlier Monday evening, Netanyahu emphasized that the Palestinian Authority will have no role in Gaza without radical change.
During a joint press conference with Trump, Netanyahu confirmed that “Gaza will have a civil and peaceful administration led by neither Hamas nor the Palestinian Authority.”
Addressing Trump, he said, “Regarding the Palestinian Authority, I appreciate your firm stance that it will have no role in Gaza without a real, radical, and genuine transformation.”
According to Netanyahu, Israel “will retain responsibility for security” in Gaza under the US peace plan, warning that the Jewish state “will finish the mission” if Hamas rejects the plan.
Netanyahu added, “Hamas will be disarmed. Gaza will be weapon-free. Israel will retain security responsibility, including a security zone in the foreseeable future. Israel’s withdrawal is linked to the extent of Hamas’s disarmament.”
He concluded, “If Hamas rejects your plan, Mr. President, or claims to accept it but does everything to oppose it, Israel will finish the mission itself. It can be done easily or it can be done hard, but it will be done.”
The White House released Trump’s 20-point plan calling for a ceasefire, exchange of hostages held by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners in Israel, gradual Israeli withdrawal from the Palestinian territory, disarmament of Hamas, and a transitional government led by an international body.
Trump said, “I also want to thank Prime Minister Netanyahu for agreeing to the plan and for his confidence that if we work together, we can put an end to the death and destruction we’ve seen for years, decades, and even many centuries, and start a new chapter of security, peace, and prosperity for the entire region.”
