Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russian forces are victorious in what he described as the “just battle” in Ukraine.

Putin said in a video clip posted on the Kremlin’s website on Monday, “Our fighters and leaders are on the offensive, and the entire state, all of Russia, is engaged in this just battle and working hard… We are defending together our love for the motherland and the unity of our historic destiny, we fight and we win.”

Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, describing it as a “special military operation” to disarm its neighbor and eliminate Nazism.

Kiev and its allies say the invasion is an unjustified imperialistic attempt to seize territory.

There is no end in sight to the war despite diplomatic efforts by U.S. President Donald Trump to end the conflict, including holding separate summits with Putin, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and other European leaders.

Russia controls nearly 114,500 square kilometers, or 19 percent of Ukraine’s territory, including the Crimean Peninsula and large parts of the east and southeast, according to battlefield maps.

Last week, Trump said Ukraine has a chance to regain territory, marking a shift from his previous stance. Washington said it is considering Kiev’s request for Tomahawk missiles to strike deep inside Russia.
