Rome – Amid Italian media reports suggesting a possible Israeli attack on the “Global Steadfastness Flotilla” heading to break the Israeli blockade on Gaza in the coming hours, Italian-Moroccan leader Yassine Lafram issued a call for support.
In a video exclusive to Al Jazeera, Lafram stated that participants have faced attacks by drones dropping sound bombs over the past five nights, intended to create fear and anxiety, but this has only strengthened their resolve and confidence in their peaceful humanitarian mission.
Speaking from the boat “Karma,” Lafram said they are sailing through international waters about 300 miles from Gaza’s coast, aiming to break the blockade and deliver humanitarian aid.
Pharmacist Dr. Aziz Ghali, a Moroccan participant and Vice President of the International Federation for Human Rights, confirmed that the initiative is purely peaceful, aimed at lifting the siege and providing aid to the besieged Palestinian people in Gaza. He warned that Israel is preparing to intercept the flotilla and detain volunteers.
Ghali announced an open hunger strike from the moment of interception until all volunteers are released, calling on the international community, human rights organizations, and independent media to act to prevent this crime before it happens.
The flotilla resumed its journey after an emergency stop in Greek waters following a drone attack on the night of September 23-24, which caused damage to some boats and injuries requiring medical intervention by the accompanying Italian medical ship “Emergency.”
The attack sparked international condemnation, prompting Italy, Spain, Greece, and Turkey to send military relief ships to accompany the flotilla, despite continued Israeli monitoring of the 45 boats (down from 50 due to technical issues).
Abdelrahman Amagu, Italian-Moroccan leader and head of the global “Action Aid” Italy branch, confirmed ongoing drone harassment amid rough seas but emphasized their determination to open a humanitarian corridor.
