Israeli far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich criticized on Tuesday the Gaza peace plan announced by U.S. President Donald Trump and supported by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In a post on X, Smotrich described the plan as a “resounding diplomatic failure and a disregard… of all the lessons from the October 7 Hamas attack” on Israel that ignited the war in Gaza.
He added, “In my view, it will also end in tears. Our children will be forced to fight in Gaza again.”
On Monday, the U.S. President unveiled a 20-point peace proposal for Gaza aimed at ending the war between Israel and Hamas, including the return of all hostages, alive or dead, within 72 hours of a ceasefire.
Arab, Islamic, and Western countries quickly praised President Trump’s plan to end the Gaza war, which Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also supported, while Hamas has yet to respond.
U.S. Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff said on Monday that Hamas’s initial response to Trump’s Gaza peace plan was “very positive.”
