Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid said on Tuesday that “the plan presented by US President Donald Trump is not perfect, but it is the best option on the table.”

He added, “Over the past year, I have managed a full series of meetings and talks with the President’s team, with Gulf countries, with Tony Blair and his team, with Palestinian representatives, and of course with Netanyahu and his team. The plan presented in the end closely resembles the one I had already presented to them a year ago.”

He continued, “We have wasted a tragic year of personal and national disasters. A year in which hostages died and soldiers were killed while our international position crumbled before our eyes. Time is running out. I am convinced that within the complex interests and the tight schedule imposed by the hostage situation, what President Trump presented yesterday is the only plan that has feasibility.”

Lapid said, “The major goals of the current plan are clear, not twenty but three: the return of the hostages, stopping the war and Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza while maintaining our security, and expanding the Abraham Accords.”

He added, “All of this is clearly in Israel’s interest. What threatens the plan now are not the people who say no, but those who say yes, but.”

He continued, “Netanyahu usually says yes in Washington, when he stands before the cameras at the White House, and says but when he returns to the country. That must not happen.”

Lapid emphasized, “We must say yes to the plan without ‘but’ and work on its immediate implementation despite all obstacles.”
