Washington, September 5, 2025 (WAL) – U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order today, Friday, reducing tariffs on Japanese car imports from 27.5% to 15%, as part of implementing the bilateral trade agreement between the United States and Japan.

According to the order, the tariff reduction will also apply to several other Japanese goods, setting a tariff cap at the same rate (15%), with the decision taking effect seven days after its publication in the U.S. Federal Register.

The White House stated officially that this step is part of the U.S. administration’s efforts to strengthen the trade partnership with Japan and open broader horizons for trade exchange between the two countries, achieving mutual economic interests and contributing to market stability.

The decision is expected to positively impact Japan’s automotive sector and may encourage American companies to expand industrial cooperation with their Japanese counterparts.
