OpenAI is set to produce its own artificial intelligence chip for the first time next year, as the developer of the ChatGPT chatbot seeks to meet the voracious demand for computing power and reduce its reliance on chip giant Nvidia.

The Financial Times reported that OpenAI is moving towards producing its own AI chip next year, aiming to satisfy the growing demand for computing power and lessen dependence on Nvidia.

According to the report, citing several informed sources, the chip was designed in partnership with American semiconductor company Broadcom and is expected to launch next year.

OpenAI, headquartered in San Francisco, California, is a leader in the ongoing AI boom, known for the GPT family of large language models, the DALL-E series for image generation from text, and the text-to-video model named Sora.
