The Pentagon announced that two Venezuelan F-16 fighter jets flew near the US missile-guided ship USS Jason Dunham in international waters off the Caribbean region.
The Pentagon described this maneuver as a “highly provocative move” aimed at intercepting US operations combating drugs and terrorism in the area. The US ship did not react to the passage of the Venezuelan aircraft.
This incident comes two days after US President Donald Trump announced a military strike against a ship believed to be transporting drug traffickers linked to the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, resulting in 11 deaths onboard. The Pentagon advised Venezuelans not to attempt to intercept or interfere with US drug and terrorism operations.
These developments come amid escalating tensions between the United States and Venezuela, with Trump accusing Nicolás Maduro’s government of supporting gangs and terrorist groups, while Maduro warned against further US actions in the region.
