Emirates Global Aluminium announced the completion of the expansion project of the “Al Taweelah Alumina Refinery” to enable an increase in the refinery’s production capacity by 50,000 tons annually.
The company stated that its internal teams were responsible for executing the entire project phases, from design and management to construction and operation, noting that construction was completed within a period not exceeding two and a half years, achieving more than 650,000 work hours without recording any work-stopping injuries.
The CEO of Emirates Global Aluminium, Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, said: “This expansion is a pivotal step for the refinery, as it enhances our production capacity and operational flexibility in light of the restructuring of the bauxite supply chain outside Guinea, in addition to strengthening our operations’ flexibility and expanding our production capabilities.” Since entering the operational phase in 2019, Al Taweelah Alumina Refinery has continued to perform beyond its nominal production capacity of two million tons annually, contributing last year to meeting 49% of Emirates Global Aluminium’s alumina requirements.
