Fujairah Municipality has completed its preparations to face the impacts of the expected weather depression in the country, with proactive measures that included adding five new pumps, previously distributed to areas most prone to water accumulation, to ensure rapid intervention and prevent water buildup in streets and residential areas.

The municipality’s Director General, Engineer Mohammed Saif Al Afkham, confirmed that this step comes in cooperation with the local Emergency, Crisis, and Disaster Management team of Fujairah, as part of a comprehensive emergency plan aimed at raising readiness levels and enhancing immediate response capabilities. He added that the plan included preparing additional water tankers and cleaning rainwater drainage networks in various neighborhoods before rainfall begins, alongside assigning field teams to work around the clock to monitor situations and intervene when necessary.

He pointed out that the measures benefit from expertise gained during previous rainy conditions, emphasizing that coordination with service entities ensures quick handling of any water accumulations, maintaining smooth traffic flow and residents’ safety.

He confirmed the completion of the entire rainwater drainage network project, coordinated with the Presidential Initiatives Implementation Committee and monitored and executed by the Fujairah Public Works and Agriculture Department. The emirate was divided into three sectors to cover Fujairah city fully. The new network extends over an area of 31.25 square kilometers, covering all neighborhoods and areas, with a length of 77 kilometers. He added that operating the network provides fast drainage of rainwater and significantly reduces the chances of water accumulation.

He stressed that municipality teams are on high alert and will start work as soon as the rain begins, whether by operating the additional pumps or removing any obstacles from water drains, aiming to protect roads and public facilities and reduce the duration of any water accumulation effects.

Fujairah Municipality called on residents and drivers to adhere to safety instructions, avoid water accumulation sites or crossing wadis during flow, and report any accumulations or malfunctions via the call center or the municipality’s smart channels to ensure quick response and enhance safety for all.
