Al-Ikhbariya channel reported that the Syrian Arab Army repelled an infiltration attempt carried out by members of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) across the Euphrates River in the Al-Mughla area of eastern Raqqa countryside.
Sources confirmed that the clashes resulted in casualties among SDF members, including deaths and injuries.
These developments come amid escalating tensions between the Syrian army and the SDF in several areas in northern and eastern Syria, with popular and security anticipation of the consequences of the escalation.
Earlier, the Syrian Ministry of Defense emphasized the necessity for the SDF to adhere to agreements signed with the Syrian state and to stop infiltration, shelling, and provocations targeting army personnel and civilians, warning that continuation of these actions would lead to new consequences.
It is worth noting that on March 10, Syrian President Ahmad Al-Shar and SDF commander Farhad Abdi Shahin signed an agreement to integrate civil and military institutions in northeastern Syria under state administration, including border crossings, airports, and oil and gas fields, reaffirming Syria’s territorial unity and rejecting any division or federalization.
The agreement included military and administrative integration of forces within the Syrian army, and it was supposed to be implemented within a specific timeframe. However, implementation faces significant challenges due to differences between the parties, especially regarding the form of integration and the self-administration rights in northeastern Syria, where the SDF refuses to dissolve itself and hand over the areas it controls without clear guarantees that Damascus considers unrealistic.
