Following directives from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, a team from the Joint Operations Command and the UAE Search and Rescue team departed the country yesterday, heading to Afghanistan to begin search and rescue missions and assist those affected by the earthquake that struck the eastern regions of the country.

Upon arrival, the team will immediately start field assessment operations in coordination with local authorities to enhance the efficiency of search and rescue efforts, expand the response scope, provide logistical and relief support to the affected areas, and work to save as many lives as possible and extract survivors from under the rubble. These efforts coincide with the UAE sending urgent humanitarian aid through its humanitarian arm, the Emirates Red Crescent Authority, including essential relief materials, medical supplies, and shelter tents, aiming to support the affected, injured, and wounded, and alleviate the disaster’s impact on the afflicted families.

This comes as part of the UAE’s immediate relief response to those affected by natural disasters and various crises, based on its international responsibilities and humanitarian mission, and its constant keenness to quickly extend a helping hand to assist the afflicted and needy worldwide.
