Any attempt to annex parts of the West Bank or impose sovereignty over it is illegal.
Abu Rudeineh clarified that Israeli plans directly contradict the foundations of international legitimacy, citing several binding UN resolutions that form the basis of any political solution, notably Security Council Resolutions 242 (1967), 338 (1973), and Resolution 2334 (2016), which explicitly condemns settlements and considers them illegal.
He emphasized that these resolutions nullify any attempt to legitimize the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land.
The Presidency spokesperson considered that the occupation government seeks, through escalation and annexation plans, to undermine international efforts aimed at stopping the war on Gaza Strip and the attacks in the West Bank.
He added that the real goal is to end any chance of achieving the two-state solution, which enjoys broad international consensus and for which the upcoming New York peace conference is being held.
The warning comes ahead of the international peace conference in New York on September 22, representing a proactive step to set Palestinian “red lines” before the international community.
The explicit demand to the US administration to “not encourage the occupation” is a direct message accusing Washington of providing political cover for Israel.
The call for “practical and serious steps” and recognition of the State of Palestine is an attempt to move the international stance from verbal condemnations to tangible actions on the ground.
Abu Rudeineh reiterated that there is no sovereignty for the occupation over any inch of Palestinian land, calling on the international community to assume its responsibilities by fully recognizing the independent State of Palestine within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
