The government in Kyiv has called for an extraordinary meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council following last week’s intense Russian air raids.

The meeting is scheduled to take place later today, Monday, in Brussels, announced Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha on the social media platform X.

Sybiha wrote in a post: “We expect a focused discussion on joint steps to appropriately respond to Russia’s rejection of peace efforts and escalation of its terrorism against Ukrainians.”

He added, “Moscow must feel stronger pressure as a result of prolonging the war.” Discussions are likely to be held at the ambassadorial level.

Although Ukraine is not a member of the Western military alliance, it aspires to join and discuss security issues within the NATO-Ukraine Council.

Last week, Russia carried out two intense nighttime air raids involving hundreds of drones, cruise missiles, and others against Ukraine.

In the capital Kyiv, more than 20 people were killed when a residential building was targeted. Ukraine has been defending itself against a full-scale Russian invasion for three and a half years.
