The Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Mr. Sid Ali Zerrouki, announced on Sunday that the recruitment competition launched by Algeria Post will be held in the coming days to hire approximately 1,000 postal workers, which will help alleviate the pressure on the institution’s employees. He also pointed to directives aimed at improving the working environment for this category, including salary increases to enhance services provided to citizens.

Algeria Post had previously announced that the national recruitment competition would be organized in September after being postponed since May.

On June 24, Algeria Post stated in an earlier announcement that the national recruitment competition would be held within weeks, after being postponed from late May to a later date. The institution also revealed a decision to open additional financial positions, exceeding 50% of the initial number of positions announced.

During his visit to Batna province, Zerrouki said that by 2027, a fiber optic network would be expanded across the entire national territory. The minister emphasized the strategic importance of this program and stressed the need to accelerate ongoing projects to connect various population centers and economic hubs to meet the growing demand for very high-speed internet, according to the Algerian Press Agency.

Zerrouki also reminded mobile phone operators of their obligations to ensure coverage according to the standards set by the specifications and to provide coverage along national road corridors. He called on mobile operators to use mobile stations installed along the coasts after the summer season as a “temporary solution” until new base station projects are completed. He also urged them to explore technical solutions to maximize the capabilities of existing stations in areas with coverage shortages.

The minister reaffirmed that improving the professional and social conditions of sector workers “receives great attention,” recalling a series of measures announced in their favor during field visits to western provinces last week.

During his visit to Batna, Zerrouki inspected several facilities under his sector, emphasizing the need to improve postal and telephone services in the province. He oversaw the commissioning of a network modernization operation to launch fiber optic phone and internet services in the “Campaign 2” residential area in Batna city, highlighting that this initiative is part of implementing the instructions of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to generalize this technology across all provinces, including villages and rural areas.

Zerrouki added that, gradually and alongside the fiber optic rollout, copper cables will be completely phased out, which will increase internet speed.

The minister also visited the commercial agencies of mobile operators “Djezzy,” “Ooredoo,” and “Mobilis” in the provincial capital, and inspected the main post office of Algeria Post. He previously inaugurated the commercial agency of Algeria Telecom in Merouana city after rehabilitation works and also inaugurated a postal office in the 1650 Housing (AADL) neighborhood in Wadi Chebba municipality.
